We use billboards, bus benches, mailers, our website, guerilla marketing, pens, bottled water with our name on it, lots of invitations, anything we can think of to give people an excuse to try out God’s good news at Jacob’s Well… but who’d have thought of this?!?
This is a clip from a Communication Cards turned in on Sunday (2.3.2008). You know there’s a story behind this one. I can’t wait for all of Jacob’s Well to hear it.
Getting the word out about a church is always difficult. I have found word on mouth very effective.
I’ve always had a hard time understanding what people mean when they say they’re going to pray about something. It’s probably because I’m doubtful as to whether or not I’ve heard answers to any of my prayers. Over the past couple of months, though, I’m starting to question whether or not I’ve been listening for those answers in the right places.
And so it is with how we listen to/for God in general. Maybe the billboards, mailers, website, pens, blogs, etc. are actually the voice of God today. So when you ask about how people learn about Jacob’s Well, perhaps it’s all God. Maybe the people and their work that are God’s voice. I’ve never heard God talk in any other way, so it could be that I’m just grasping for something I need/want. But, for now, for today, this explanation works for me. Peace!
